The Buddha and Maitreya
Our theme today is The Buddha and Maitreya. Our articles are sourced from May’s Share International magazine. We start with ‘The Buddha’ by Aart Jurriaanse sourced from his book, Bridges, a commentary on the teachings of Alice A. Bailey.

In the past, Westerners were often inclined to regard Buddhism as heathenish, based on worship of images and statues of the Buddha. In truth, the Buddha was as much a divine envoy to the peoples of the Far East as was the Christ in Palestine six centuries later. The Buddha was the spiritual leader for the East in similar way that the Christ fulfilled that function for the West.

Of recent years, many are obtaining a clearer perspective on these matters, and recognizing that one of the means employed by the Lord of the World to effect man’s subjective growth is to provide humanity periodically with spiritual Envoys or ‘Avatars’ – divine Messengers who come as Prophets or Teachers, each bringing some special revelation, message or teaching, applicable to the needs of the people of that particular time, region and stage of development.
