Thought and the Thinker
The theme of today’s programme is “Thought” taken from the title of the following two-part article by Aart Jurriaanse first published in the December 1991 and January ’92 editions of Share International magazine. He starts by saying …

Man is today moving into a New Era; an era wherein the mind is going to play a dominating role; an era wherein human desire and emotion will be subverted to intellectual considerations, and where improved human relations, based on loving understanding, will supervene. It will be an era wherein the power of thought will become the guiding principle of man’s activities, in contrast to the past when man’s actions were largely determined by physical and emotional considerations.

Under the circumstances a better understanding of the laws of thought must be regarded as essential. In the distant future the time will come when even concrete thought will be superseded by the intuition, and when the lower mind will merely fulfil the functions of a transmitter — but that time is not yet. The attention should therefore first of all be focused on the period of transition which is now being entered — the mental age, commanded by the realms of thought.

It should be pointed out that there are many grades of thought, when origin and consequent quality are taken into consideration. The mentally developed man will produce thoughts of totally different calibre from those of the man whose life is still largely focused on the physical and emotional planes, and who hardly ever touches the mental level.

But there is also the other extreme of the advanced spiritual man leading a dual existence, manifesting in his material body in the physical world of men, but simultaneously spending a considerable part of his thought life in contact with the intuitional plane of the soul. Thoughts of an elevated nature which do not in the first instance concern the self, but cover a wider interest, affecting the group, the community, or the race as a whole, have their source from higher spiritual levels.
